Welcome to Koh Phra Thong - Golden Buddha Island
Thailand's Koh Phra Thong - Golden Buddha Island is named after a local legend. The story tells of a precious stolen golden buddha statue buried on the island by pirates which was never recovered.
Tropical Beach - Thailand
Nowadays, the island benefits from being one of Thailand's last unspoiled coastal locations. With over 15km of largely uninhabited white sandy beaches, Koh Phra Thong is an ideal choice for those who are really looking to get away from it all.
Highest rated Resort in Phang Nga

Koh Phra Thong is home to the top resort in the Phang Nga region. Golden Buddha Beach Resort rates highest on trip advisor. This is no mean feat considering Phang Nga encompasses Khao Lak which is renowned for its amazing resorts. Read the trip advisor reviews to find out what visitors have to say.
Budget Accommodation
For those on a tighter budget there are a number of other accommodation options which still allow you the luxury of the expansive sandy beaches of Koh Phra Thong.
Travellers have the opportunity to experience the halcyon years of Thailand tourism at Mr. Chuoi's. He offers great value simple huts next to the sea. With virgin beaches in both directions, this is a luxury everyone can afford.
Alternatively, indulge in a more cultural vacation by opting for homestay accommodation. This provides intrepid holiday makers with a unique experience of village life and local food. It is also the best way to support the local community through sustainable tourism practices.
Surin & Richelieu - Thailand's Best Diving
Koh Phra Thong is the closest land mass to the Surin Islands which hosts the broadest diversity of hard corals in Thailand.
Nearer still is Richelieu Rock, Thailand's best scuba diving location and considered a world top ten dive site. Richelieu has regular visits from graceful manta rays and elusive whale sharks.
Divemaster Internship on Koh Phra Thong
Koh Phra Thong is a wonderful environment to climb up the scuba diving ranks to PADI Divemaster status.
Aside from the traditional PADI Divemaster course, Blue Guru Diving also offer unique individuals the opportunity to take a longer Divemaster Internship program at a very special price.
Far away from the madding crowds of Koh Tao, the Koh Phra Thong experience is not for everyone. However, for those looking for some of the most senastional nature in Thailand then we suggest you take a thorough look through our website and our Divemaster Blog.

Thong, offering a range of bespoke houses on an uninhabited stretch of beach; complimented by exquisite Thai and western cuisine for the holiday of a lifetime.

Ecotourism - Koh Phra Thong, Thailand
Koh Phra Tong is the perfect venue for eco tourism. Diverse natural conditions provide habitats for a variety of flora and fauna, both on land and at sea.
Savannah & Mangrove
The inner part of the island is dominated by savannah, interspersed with trees. This is home to deers, monkeys, wild pigs and numerous bird species including rare horrnbills.
Fringing the inner coasts is dense mangrove forest.
This an immensely important habitat and a good indicator of the quality of the surrounding sea. The mangroves supply a nursery environment for most of the colourful reef fish, which are found around the corals of Koh Pling Yai and Noi off the west coast of the island
Seagrass & Rainforests
Dugong, an extremely rare and endangered species still survive in the seagrass around Koh Phra Thong. This is also an environment favoured by sea horses.
To the north lies the rainforest covered Koh Ra. This island stands in stark contrast to the flat beach lined Koh Phra Thong. It is a mountainous ridge jutting out of the water; a deep green canopy covering its entire length hiding more exceptional species of animals and plants. Leopard cats, pangolin and flying fox are just a few of the many amazing creatures found here.
With such rich natural treasures in abundance, local operators and land owners are committed to promoting sustainable tourism practices in the hope of preserving this beautiful part of Thailand for generations to come.
Turtle Conservation on KPT
Naucrates.org is an early pioneer of the sustainable tourism practice. Working on Ko Pra Tong since 1996 they have been deeply involved in the conservation of the island's turtle nesting sites and the restoration of mangrove forest.
