There are a number of activities available during your Koh Phra Thong homestay. Each of these will provide further insight into the local history, cultures and tradtions. Additionally, by taking part in a homestay activitiy you will be providing the village with income through the promotion of sustainable tourism practices.

Sea Grass Visit
In low tide, a walk to the beach offers education about the rich biodiversity of sea grass and marine animals. You will enjoy stunning scenery, abundance of life, and learn from the village guides.

Visit the old village of Pak Chok

The 2004 tsunami devastated Pak Jok Village, leaving only small sections of concrete road and the bases of a few buildings.
Pak Jok was a vibrant village when the tsunami came. Then villagers from Pak Jok were scattered into many new villages which were built for tsunami-affected people.
You’ll have time to view and learn about the old village. From there you can walk to the beach and relax in a serene atmosphere while viewing a beautiful sunset.

Golden Grass Field Visit

Get transported via a local tractor to golden grass fields while enjoying a picturesque setting along the way of the rising morning sun that showcases deer footprints and foliage.
At the grass field you can see a magnificent landscape surrounded by a swamp area. Melaleuca trees are scattered around. In dry season, this field is golden when reflected by sun.
Sun dew is one of many fantastic plants here. Sun dew has a trap for insects to fall into to provide the plant with nutrients. The golden grass field is a look at a view of Thai landscapes rarely seen.

Grass Thatching
Villagers utilize their natural resources. They cut dry grass, thatch strands together and make it into a roof. You can learn this local practice in thatching grass together. The use of local materials, hand-made, shields villagers from intense sun and creates a strong enough roof to protect from heavy rain. This type of roof can last for five years.

Making Squid Traps

Making squid trap: Fishing is the main occupation for Ban Lion villagers. Squid is one of the main catches of the day. Making a squid trap is a method to learn the villagers’ way of life. Join the local fisherman to assist in constructing traps.

Fishing
You’ll begin with a scenic long tail boat trip to nearby seashore. Learn to fish like a local with the expert knowledge of a guide. Relax on the journey. Who knows, you may even bring back a fresh meal to cook with your homestay host.

Marine Habitats
This tropical Thai island is fortunate to benefit from diverse & healthy marine habitats. In Golden Buddha Bay there are coral reefs. In Koh Ra Channel there are expanses of seagrass and some of the densest mangrove forest in the country.
